Restaurant OOBU · Turku
OOBU is a restaurant in the heart of Turku, on the second and third floors of the historic Bassi house. Our kitchen turns fresh Finnish ingredients into honest flavours — handmade from scratch. Dinner on the bank of the River Aura starts here.
Our story
OOBU opened its doors on 30.10.2020 on the bank of the River Aura, in the old rooms of the Bassi house. Our kitchen is built on fresh Finnish ingredients — fish we smoke ourselves, seasonal vegetables and berries that tell you where we are.
From the start we made one defining choice: every one of our dishes is gluten-free and lactose-free. It is not a limitation but discipline — every sauce, bread and dessert is built from scratch, by hand.
Honest food is not a style. It is the ingredient, the season and the craft — on the same plate.
The dining rooms span two floors of old rooms — each with its own character, all with the same view: the river along which the archipelago’s people once brought their harvest to town.
Our service is present but unhurried. The sommelier walks alongside the kitchen, and our wine list tells the same story as the plate — precisely chosen.
Head chef
”The ingredient sets the rhythm. Our job in the kitchen is not to overdo — to let the fish, the season and the smoke speak.”

Tommy Gråhn has led OOBU’s kitchen since opening night. His cooking joins Finnish tradition with precise craft — from house-smoked fish to new readings of the Mannerheim classics.
Restaurateur
Turo Jokinen opened OOBU in the Bassi house in October 2020 — the idea being a house where Finnish ingredients take centre stage, without unnecessary flourishes. His hand shows beyond the dining room, down in the cellar: the house's own wine import from Piedmont began at his initiative.
