The House & Story
The Bassi house was completed on the bank of the River Aura in 1829 — two years after the Great Fire of Turku. OOBU opened on its second and third floors in October 2020.
The hand of Charles Bassi
The Bassi house was completed in 1829 to the designs of architect Charles Bassi — just two years after the Great Fire of Turku, as the city rebuilt itself along the banks of the River Aura. For centuries the house has carried merchants, homes and encounters.
On 30 October 2020, Restaurant OOBU opened on the house’s second and third floors. The beams have darkened over almost two centuries, the thick walls keep the street outside, and the tall windows open onto the same river Bassi knew. The old house was given a new task: to frame food that speaks for itself.
The Great Fire of Turku destroys much of the city — rebuilding begins.
The Bassi house is completed on Läntinen Rantakatu to Charles Bassi’s drawings.
Restaurant OOBU opens its doors on floors 2–3 on 30 October.
